Radiological Study Reveals the Safety and Effectiveness of Breast Pre-expansion and Autologous Fat Transplantation for Breast Enhancement

Published:February 26th, 2011

A study published by the Plastic and Reconstructive surgery in February 2011 was able to prove the safety and effectiveness of breast expansion procedure and autologous  fat plantation for breast enhancement through three dimensional volumetric imaging and MRI imaging.

Fat grafting is a very popular procedure for breast augmentation.  However, there is still no standard technique for this procedure. With this study, the researchers aimed to establish as routine surgical technique that can make fat grafting and breast pre-expansion easier and safer to perform.

In this study 25 female patients were recruited for breast enhancement. The indications for breast enhancement include micromastia, or small breasts, post-explantation deformity, tuberous breast deformity and Poland syndrome, a congenital anomaly that results into the absence of breast muscle, the pectoralis muscle. Breast pre-expansion was done to each of these subjects and fat grafting was carried out after pre-expansion. After which, their breast results were monitored using three dimensional volumetric imaging and MRI.

The results? All these subjects had breast enlargement within six months. In fact, a 60% to 200% increase in breast volume was observed in this group of women. Furthermore, aside from the breast enlargement attained, their breasts were also soft and very natural looking.

Thus, the researchers concluded that breast pre-expansion followed by fat grafting is a safe and effective breast enhancement procedure that allows large-volume grafting of up to 300ml. However, larger-scale studies are still needed to further establish this breast enhancement technique.

How can I find out who to contact regarding further studies of this and other related subjects? I am almost 28 years old, I have 3 children and I couldn’t fill a AA cup if someone paid me…before I had children I was a full B…but now I look like I haven’t hit puberty. I’ve considered surgical implants, but it’s expensive and dangerous, especially for someone who’s had Guillain-Barre Syndrome (a demyleinating polyneuropathy that is triggered by ‘foreign objects’ (bacteria, viruses or something like that) that my antibodies went crazy attacking, and even once the foreign invader is gone the antibodies attack the mylein sheath on the nerves, causing paralysis): I’ve heard of cases of breast implant patients getting very sick after having the implants because their body is just fighting them off as foreign objects, and if my immune system is crazy as it is, how would it react to foreign implants? News of this kind of implant could mean me feeling like a real woman for the first time ever in my life, seeing as how I started having children at 19, and my breasts went south pretty much from the beginning. More information about this would be soooo welcomed and appreciated!! Perhaps by the time I can afford surgery, this will be a procedure that is approved for plastic surgeons.
